1897: Foundation of AIPPI, Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle
AIPPI was established shortly after the Paris Convention was signed in 1883.
AIPPI started with an emphasis on Western Europe but, through a process of continuous development, it has become a truly international organisation with members from over one hundred countries.
AIPPI held its first Congress in Budapest and Vienna in 1897, and in 1997 AIPPI celebrated its Centenary in the same cities.
In its long history, AIPPI has adopted more than 700 Resolutions and Reports. The presentation of these to international GOs, WIPO in particular, has contributed considerably to the development, improvement and harmonization of the international protection of intellectual property.
